Problem Statement

The current task execution platform used by XDM is no longer actively maintained and does not receive security updates. This creates long-term security and sustainability risks for customers who rely on XDM to start, control, and monitor task executions.

Customer Value

Customers benefit from a more secure and sustainable execution foundation for XDM. This reduces risk from outdated dependencies, maintains operational visibility, and supports reliable task processing across different deployment environments. It also improves long-term maintainability without compromising existing execution capabilities.

Scope

This epic covers the design and delivery of a production-ready replacement for task execution within the XDM ecosystem, including:

  • Controlled task execution, including queueing and limits for parallel runs

  • Support for both Docker Compose and Kubernetes deployment models

  • The ability to run task workloads in isolated processes or containers

  • Integration with existing XDM services and execution tracking

  • Monitoring of task lifecycle events, including start, end, heartbeat, status, and error reporting

  • Preservation or improvement of current visibility into task and step-level execution progress

The goal is to fully replace the existing task execution dependency without reducing current functional coverage.
